What Are You Looking For?

by Robbin Botnick, September 29, 2018

I have often told my children that you get out of something what you put into it and the more that you put in, the more you tend to get out. If you study more, you get better marks and with better marks, you might get the luxury of choosing a university or getting a scholarship or just making a difference in someone else’s life. As adults we also tend to get more out of something when we put more in, when we make ourselves present and not just show up. This is true, generally speaking, of our jobs and careers, our volunteer activities and how we support causes that we care about.

Our volunteers continue to teach in Bet Sefer Solel and support our various committees and Tikun Olam projects because they truly care about our children, our community and about Solel. We are fortunate to have so many committed individuals and families in our congregation however, commitment goes both ways and as a board and as a community we want to make sure that Solel is also committed to you and continues to meet your needs. At different stages in our lives we want or need different things from our Synagogue and as a Board we want to better understand what you need. We want to start a dialogue with you about what you want from Solel. What kinds of programs and activities are you looking for? What spiritual and religious aspects would you like to see more of or less of? Are you open to trying new prayer service formats or different kinds of programs that better support where you are in your life right now? Do you have ideas about what changes we can make to Bet Sefer Solel to keep our children engaged in Jewish learning? Do you have ideas on how we can structure financial contributions to ensure that we are still able to run the Synagogue operations but consider different options? Are you ready to get more involved in Synagogue leadership, do you need help or support to get more engaged? Are there things that you would like to see us try at Solel?

If you have ideas to share please send me an email (president@solelweb.azurewebsites.net) or call the office and I will reach out to you. If you are interested in participating in a focus group to discuss some of these ideas please let me know which topic or topics you are interested in and we will reach out to you. Over the coming months we are going to be looking at what we can do to better engage our members and strengthen our community. We will be looking to you to help with us with ideas and with your time to ensure that we all get out of Solel what we need and that this motivates us want to build a stronger Congregation.

Shana Tova,
Robbin
