Community Success Story
Several months ago, I wrote in these pages to inform you about a new initiative to grant govern-ment subsidies – free of charge – to Canadian children. The Canada Learning Bond is available to children born since 2004, whose family income is $42,000 or less. In the first year, the Canadian government places $500 into the child’s RESP; it then contributes $100 annually until age 15. The funds are to be used exclusively for post-secondary education. By the time a child reaches that point in life, the RESP will have accumulated over $2,000 – and even more if the family is able to add their own contributions.

Cheryl Englander is awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The award ceramony was held recently at a gathering of UJA Lion of Judah Women’s Philanthropy session.
We wish Cheryl Englander a Mazal Tov on being awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her community service within Mississauga. She has served on the Board of Foodpath and Pathway Community Programmes (where she still volunteers at the Breakfast Club). She is past Board Chair of Credit Valley Hospital and is the current Board Chair of Heart House Hospice of Peel. She is Vice President of ARZA Canada, the Reform Zionist organization – and of course there are the many areas of Solel: International Language Co-Ordinator for Bet Sefer Solel and the Urdu programme, a member of the Membership Committee and lots more!
